Privacy Policy for Hatch Finances

Last Updated: March 2026

At Hatch Finances LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”), we believe that financial clarity starts with trust. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share your personal and financial information when you use our cross-platform web and mobile applications, our backend APIs, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By using Hatch | Finances, you agree to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. The Short Version (TL;DR)

We know you are trusting us with your most sensitive financial data. Here is our core promise to you:

  • We do NOT sell your personal or financial data to third parties, data brokers, or advertisers.
  • We do NOT store your bank login credentials. (Account linking is handled securely by Plaid.)
  • We do NOT store your credit card numbers. (Payment processing is handled securely by Stripe.)
  • We DO use industry-standard encryption to protect your data while it is stored in our database and while it travels across the internet.

2. Information We Collect

To provide our financial calculators, Monte Carlo simulations, and tax tools, we must collect specific information. We collect data in three ways:

A. Information You Provide Directly to Us

When you type information into our app, it is securely stored in our database so you don’t have to re-enter it every time. This includes:

  • Profile Data: Your name, email address, and date of birth.
  • Household Data: The names, relationships, and dates of birth of your spouse, children, or dependents (used for tax and FIRE calculations), as well as your primary and secondary residence addresses.
  • Manual Financial Data: Information you manually input regarding your salaries, assets (e.g., 401k balances), liabilities (e.g., student loans, credit cards), mortgages (including interest rates and origination dates), and recurring expenses.
  • App Preferences: Your chosen currency, language, and theme (Light/Dark mode).

B. Information Collected via Third-Party Integrations

If you use our premium features or create an account, we receive data from our trusted infrastructure partners:

  • Authentication Data (Clerk): When you sign up, our authentication provider, Clerk, securely processes your login credentials and MFA status. We receive a unique User ID and your email to associate your account with your financial data.
  • Linked Financial Data (Plaid): If you are a Pro user and choose to link your external financial accounts, you will do so through Plaid. Plaid securely communicates with your bank. We receive read-only data, such as account balances, transaction history, and loan terms. We never see or store your bank username or password.
  • Subscription Data (Stripe): When you upgrade to Hatch Pro, Stripe processes your payment. We receive confirmation of your subscription tier and billing status, but we do not receive your full credit card number.

C. Information Collected Automatically

When you interact with the Service, we automatically collect certain technical data to ensure the app is running smoothly:

  • Device & Usage Data: IP addresses, browser types, mobile device identifiers, operating systems, and interaction data (such as which calculators you use most frequently).

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide, maintain, and improve Hatch | Finances. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Power the Engine: Run complex mathematical models, such as Monte Carlo simulations, tax refund maximizers, and compound interest projections.
  • Provide the Service: Create your account, sync your cross-platform data (between Web and Mobile), and display your personalized financial dashboard.
  • Process Payments: Manage your Pro tier subscription.
  • Communicate with You: Send you critical account updates, security alerts, and customer support responses.
  • Improve the App: Analyze usage trends to build better features and fix bugs.

4. How We Share Your Information

We strictly limit who has access to your data. We only share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With Service Providers: We share necessary data with companies that provide our core infrastructure, including Neon & Render (database and API hosting), Clerk (authentication), Plaid (account syncing, opt-in only), and Stripe (payment processing).
  • For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hatch Finances LLC, our users, or the public.
  • Business Transfers: If Hatch Finances LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified via email of any change in ownership.

5. Data Security

We take the security of your financial command center seriously.

  • Encryption: Your data is encrypted in transit (using HTTPS/SSL) and encrypted at rest within our database.
  • Authentication: We mandate secure sessions and offer Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) via Clerk to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
  • No Fiduciary Risk: Because Hatch | Finances only maintains read-only access to your linked bank accounts via Plaid, no one (including us, or a malicious actor) can use our application to move money out of your bank accounts.

Your Responsibility: While we protect our infrastructure, you are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and enabling MFA on your account.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your personal and financial information only as long as you have an active Hatch | Finances account.

Account Deletion: You have the right to request the deletion of your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, we will permanently erase your profile, household data, and financial inputs from our active databases, and revoke Plaid access tokens. (Note: Some residual data may remain temporarily in encrypted, automated database backups until they expire.)

7. Children’s Privacy

Hatch | Finances is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete the account and associated data immediately.

8. State-Specific Rights (California, Oregon)

Depending on where you reside, you may have specific rights regarding your personal data, including the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, or request deletion of your data. To exercise these rights, please email us at the address provided below.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our technology or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice within the Hatch | Finances applications. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
